There has been an extremely noticeable increase in the number of movies released lately that are based on popular novels or series of books. One could easily make the argument that this trend started with the Lord of the Rings movies and the extremely high level of success they attained. An interesting effect of this trend, according to some, is that it’s actually causing an increase in reading amongst people of all age groups. Whether or not that’s the case, however, it’s fairly obvious that the trend of converting popular books into movie franchises is showing no real signs of slowing down any time soon. You can often view these movies on specialty networks and channels available through Direct.TV/direct-tv-deals.html.
Aside from the movies based on The Lord of the Rings – and, in the same vein, the Hobbit – there have also been film adaptations of several other series. The Harry Potter and Twilight books were both adapted into extremely successful movie series that made quite a bit of money both at the theaters and through DVD sales. The success of this practice even got Hollywood interested in adaptations of lesser known series of books such as A Series of Unfortunate Events and the Percy Jackson series. These didn’t do anywhere near as well, from a profit standpoint, as the adaptations of the more well-known and popular series but it is a positive sign for people who enjoy seeing their favorite stories adapted for the big screen.
With the Twilight and Harry Potter movies both finished, however, there is an opening ready to be filled for everyone who enjoys seeing books brought to life on the big screen, perhaps the Hunger Games will do this. All that’s needed is for the next big hit to come along and wow audiences again.
